Teaching Speaking

Enable all students to speak well, meet state Speaking/ Listening standards

This workshop gives teachers the tools needed to effectively teach oral communication. In all situations, student speaking will improve. A framework is introduced that shows teachers how to break oral expression into manageable, teachable parts leading to an understanding of the elements of successful oral communication. Strategies for teaching, lesson plans, and engaging activities will be presented. Effective rubrics will be created. Participants will come away feeling confident and competent teachers of oral communication in all of its forms.

PVLEGS© and Six Trait Speaking©will improve class discussions, formal speeches, and one-on-one communication. This workshop will enable teachers to meet the speaking standards and improve student speaking in the classroom and beyond.

Making Sense of Input in the Digital Age

“Listening” has new meaning in the digital age.
Think of all the input our students get: text with multimedia hyperlinks, tweets, videos, flipped classes, and traditional school activities. To help them make sense of all of that, they need specific instruction:

This workshop explains the skills needed to navigate and evaluate the digital world and offers practical lesson ideas that enable teachers to create effective listeners.

Communication Skills for Educators

Many educators are comfortable in front of the class, but less comfortable at back-to-school night, in parent conferences, presenting to the staff, talking at department meetings, on camera for Skype or video, and more.

This workshop enables teachers and teacher leaders to be more comfortable, more confident, and more competent in all the ways they communicate. The workshop shows how to build and perform powerful presentations for any audience. It includes design tips to end Death by PowerPoint!
